Fantastic support from Sally's colleagues...

This Charitable Trust is devoted to the memory of Sally Roberts, who served as a police constable for three years in Croydon. First completing her probation on a Norbury response team before joining London's first cross-border safer neighbourhood team. She had spent the last year working on the Crystal Palace safer neighbourhood team, which was launched in October 2005.

Her colleagues have been working really hard to raise funds in her memory. With a range of exciting events already taken place and more for the future we are deeply touched by their commitment and drive to make this charitable trust a tribute to Sally.

Sgt Spencer Ogilvie raised a considerable sum of money through organising a very successful football event before Christmas and has high hopes for a number of future fundraising ideas. (More details will follow as plans are finalised). Spence has even managed to get Sallys Childrens Trust a mention in the Arsenal v Newcastle match programme!

Words from Sally's colleagues:

Borough commander Chief Superintendent Mark Gore said: "Sally was a well-respected and dedicated police officer, serving first on a response team at Norbury."

"For the last year Sally had been instrumental in the local community of the Crystal Palace Triangle."

Sergeant Spence Ogilvie, who worked closely with PC Roberts on the Crystal Palace Triangle Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "The team has lost more than a colleague. Colleagues come and go but Sally was a friend, a member of the family - a friend I admired enormously."

"The Service didn't and wasn't going to change her. She did this job for the right reasons - to help people and make the community she served better, and she put her heart into it."

"Sally was the ultimate people person. Her achievements were immeasurable. She built strong community ties and gained the trust and respect of the local community. She will be missed."

PCSO Lillian Williamson who was Sally's patrol partner for almost a year says: 'Sally was was not the typical police officer but worked closely with the community and together we were building up the community trust, we visited a local school, and helped people to get onto the right track in life. We had so much to do and plan for the Crystal Palace community, I am doing my best to carry on with Sally's work, I thought the world of Sally she was like a daughter to me, I will do what I can, I just want to put back the love Sally had for people, young and old.'

What is the Crystal Palace Triangle Safer Neighbourhood Team?

The first cross border Safer Neighbourhood team went live on Monday 31 October in the Triangle area of Crystal Palace, SE19.

The dedicated team of police officers and police community support officers will be the latest Safer Neighbourhood team to be launched in the capital since Safer Neighbourhood policing was first launched by the MPS in April 2004.

It covers parts of the London Boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth and Bromley. The southern boundary will be the railway line and includes both Gypsy Hill and Crystal Palace rail stations.

This dedicated team consists of one sergeant, two police constables and four police community support officers will patrol in the triangle area of SE19, working closely with local communities and local authorities to tackle quality of life issues and the sort of anti social behaviour that makes people feel unsafe.

The team was established with support from the Greater London Assembly and Metropolitan Police Authority in response to compelling community support from residents in the local area.

The teams role is to work with local communities to identify local priorities using residents’ surveys and direct contacts with local organisations and groups.

The team that worked with Sally:
Sgt Spencer Ogilvie, Pc Charles Tresham, PCSO Lillian Wiliamson, PCSO Chris Horyna, PCSO Emma Leaman and PCSO Andrew Haynes.
